It’s not just in gyms and on land where scientists are looking to capture the energy of movement to power our lives. At sea, the energy from a wave can now be captured and could be a significant step toward reducing the need for environmentally damaging fuels such as diesel at sea.
The year the Southampton International Boat Show discussed renewable energy solutions which could power boats and it is a tantalising prospect to turn that churning, water energy into forward motion.
The plan is to harness the kinetic energy created by the waves, and convert it to electrical energy which will propel the ship via an electric motor.
